Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Tour de France tips

The Tour de France kicked off yesterday with a great win for Mark Cavendish, and plenty of thrills and spills along the way. I kept my powder dry and had a watching brief as the first stage is always frantic and the cross winds cause havoc to all the sprinters. Today we have a fairly flat stage which ends with a 3km climb to the finish, so it’s the puncheurs that will play a part and the sprinters will finish in the pack.

Peter Sagan is the favorite but may have to help Contador to the line as there’s no 3km rule where riders all get the same time, it’s all the way or nothing and Alberto’s crash may mean he needs assistance today. My main pick today is Etixx’s Julian Alaphilippe who has been in great form coming in to this race. He had an amazing French National Road Race where he pretty much bossed his countrymen, but just failed at the end. This looks a perfect stage for him.

The other bet to place is on Orica’s team leader Simon Gerrans. He also comes here in fairly good nick and confidence will be high with so many class riders to help him in to that final stretch to the finish.
