Sprinters come to the fore

pro2punter - Stage 17

The sprinters come to the fore today in one of the last chances to for a bunch finish at high speeds. Montpellier is renowned as a sprinters paradise and the teams will want to take advantage of a flat stage after the last few crazy days. Yesterday we had a 22/1 third place and Sagan just being pipped to second at 9/2. Clearly in form with a 14 point profit so far, today we have a few very big prices that have chances.

The two main favorite for the stage are Marcel Kittel and Mark Cavendish with both priced around 2/1. If I was going for either it would be the Manxman but I personally think both are too short to back now, especially as Cav was as big as 8/1 to win the first stage. So today a few small bets on surprise packages and the fact that after climbing the Pyrenees some of the riders will have lost a little in their legs, but we’ll find that out today.

Bryan Coquard could be France’s big hope for their first win and he’s been improving as the tour goes on, albeit a few strange tactical decisions along the way. He will be up there in the firing line and can surf his way in to contention.

Another two that have really impressed are Edward Theuns and Daniel McLay. Both have finished consistently in the top ten and McLay nearly stole a stage off of Cav last week with a great late surge. They don’y have the class of the big four sprinters but they have been building confidence every sprint stage and one of them could quite easily upset the apple cart and contend for a podium.
