The Premier League started in Leeds last week and we continued our excellent recent Arrers form with another big priced winner. We backed Barney to beat Taylor @ 13/5 and he absolutely sailed home 7-2. The standard of darts on the night was surprisingly average with poor performances from both Van Gerwen and Taylor and even worse efforts from Michael Smith and Robert Thornton.
There is something seriously wrong with The Thorn’s game as he was whitewashed 7-0 by Chisnall averaging a mere 75.68. That would make him a certainty to oppose this week if he wasn’t playing debutant Michael Smith. Bully Boy endured a torrid night winning just 3 legs in his games against Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis. No player can be backed with any kind of confidence in the night’s opener so we’ll swerve a bet there.
Barney v Wright should be a much higher quality encounter and looking at the match odds it’s the Dutchman who stands out. Take the extremely generous 15/8 on Barney to make it 2 wins out of 2 for the former World Champion.
Gary Anderson missed the opening night through illness and it’s not certain what kind of shape he will be in against Van Gerwen. MVG let an early lead slip against Wade on Tuesday and looked very much out of sorts. Taking Anderson’s health and MVG’s wobble into account the Total 180s spread looks a little high so take BetVictor’s 10/11 on there being Under 7.5 180s in the match.
Taylor plays Wade in the final match of the night with The Power looking very short at a general 10/11 to win the game. We expect this to be a tight game with both players averaging in the high 90s so the value bet looks like the Draw @ 4/1.
