Robert Thornton v Peter Wright
Raymond Barneveld v Phil Taylor
James Wade v Adrian Lewis
Michael Van Gerwen v Gary Anderson
Raymond Barneveld v Robert Thornton
There are only 5 more rounds of matches left before we get to the semi finals so now the pressure is really mounting. One man heading to Belfast in good form is James Wade. He sits in 5th place in the table just behind Gary Anderson on leg difference following a run of 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in his last 6 matches. Wade is priced at 7/4 to beat Lewis tonight and is certainly the value bet.
Robert Thornton scraped into phase 2 of this year’s competition after recovering from an absymal start to finally show some of the form that has nabbed him 2 major titles in the last couple of seasons. He played very well in narrowly losing to the irrepressible MVG last week with his average and checkout rate shooting up to rival those at the top of the league. He is playing the consistent Peter Wright in Belfast, but The Thorn is hugely underestimated by the bookies. We think this one could be extremely close so we’re taking the Draw at a big price of 4/1.
The match of the night is Michael Van Gerwen against his nemesis Gary Anderson. The two have had some titanic battles in recent years and although this one doesn’t have anything like as much riding on it as most of their meetings, it is still likely to be fiercely contested. Van Gerwen is correctly installed as the favourite since his powerful scoring and unbelievable checkout percentage is something Anderson cannot match over the course of a Premier League season. The Scot is much more at home in the knockout stages where he can hit peak form and blow anyone, including MVG, out of the water. Although Anderson batters the lipstick, he is not as brilliant as MVG when it comes to hitting 180s. Van Gerwen has ammassed 41 maximums to Anderson 30 this tournament and in 2 fewer legs. The 5/6 on offer for MVG hitting more 180s tonight is an excellent bet.
