The Premier League enters it’s 2nd phase in Sheffield with Dave Chisnall and Michael Smith eliminated last week in Cardiff. Robert Thornton completed his Houdini act and despite losing to Adrian Lewis on the night he still managed to keep his head above water and avoid the early exit.
However, he still needs a miracle to get to the semi finals and he couldn’t have a tougher opponent than Michael Van Gerwen in the steel city. It’s hard to argue with the prices here with MVG a best odds 1/5 to take the points. No bet for us.
But we will be backing Gary Anderson to beat Phil Taylor and a generous 6/4. The Scot is finding form at the right time and is great value to beat The Power who laboured to a win against the underwhelming Michael Smith last week. However, we are siding with Taylor in the Most 180s market. Taylor is consistently overpriced because of his tendency to move down the board to the 19s, but he still batters the lipstick regularly. He’s hit 30 maximums this year compared to 32 to Anderson and this means that 15/8 on the Power to hit more tonight is a must back.
The other 2 matches are extremely tight affairs with Wade slight jolly against Barney and nothing at all to split Lewis and Wright. The Scot Peter Wright is the standout selection though with his impressive tournament average of 100.88 and checkout percentage of 43.86% he should be backed at 11/8 to win the match. Adrian Lewis is a superb player, but battling away in tight matches is not his strong point, as illustrated by the fact he is the only player this year not to Draw a match. Wright is a quality player and an even better fighter so get on!
