Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Mont Ventoux for GC boys

We head to the legendary Mont Ventoux where the GC boys will play it out for the top spot. Unfortunately because of high winds the mountain top finish has been cut by 6kms meaning the end will be a little further down the road. Still a brutal stage is the order of the day and it may liven up proceedings, although Chris Froome is doing a great job of that already. Chalet Reynard is the where we head to and you can see the revised route below.

The two main favorite for the stage are obviously Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana, but both are fairly short and I can see a breakaway getting the jump on the bunch today. So a couple of big priced breakaways are tipped up and a little tickle on a GC contender. Rafal Majka has looked in great form so far and is going for the KOTM jersey with Thibaut Pinot his main rival. I think Majka has the beating of the Frenchman but he took a tumble yesterday, so as long as he recovered from the fall then he looks a bet to get away at some point today.

Another big price is Froome’s team mate Sergio Henao who in his own right is riding very well. He’s seems to be Froome’s main man at Sky and there’s a possibility he’ll be sent up the road and if he’s feeling good take the win, depending on what happens back in the peleton. Even so he has a great chance of a place if they finish together. It’s Bastille Day and the hopes of a nation are on Bardet and Pinot, but my money is on Pierre Rolland making a fist of it in the breakaway. He’s had a couple of dodgy stages and is far enough down the GC to be let loose, and if on form today he could become a hero in France.

Of the big GC boys I really like the look of Richie Porte. He’s riding well and is full of confidence, he just needs that little spark to get him away from Froome on the big climbs. Today’s stage suits him down to the ground and he needs to take a little time back to be in contention come next week.
