Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Lewandowski to light up Poland

Four great games to watch today and it’s do or die for some. We’re backing Robert Lewandowski to light up the Euros and notch first for Poland in a game that could see them top the group. World Cup winners Germany are also in action and need three points to ensure they get an easier last 16 game, but Northern Ireland are also playing for a point so a tight tussle is on the cards. The later games see Spain playing for top spot against a Croatian team who are more worried about their fans disrupting the Euros, and the Turks seeking their first win of the competition against a Czech side in desperate need of 3 points as well.

Germany v Northern Ireland

On paper this looks a simple task for the reigning world champions, and three points and top of the group should be assured. But Northern Ireland are a steadfast team and will defend for their lives, already showing they can attack on the break. We can’t see them upsetting the Germans, but they can frustrate them for long periods of the game and soak up the pressure, as a draw will see them through. The bet looks to be on the corners, where the ball will be mostly in Northern Ireland’s half for long periods. There were 17 corners in their game against Ukraine and then they managed to win 8 versus Poland. The overs are well worth a punt.

Poland v Ukraine

Poland will have been pleased with their draw against Germany last week and look ready to unleash a few goals on someone. We’ve barely seen their attacking potential and if they play the same way against Ukraine it could be a long night for the eastern Europeans. The team are confident and won’t settle for second place. Ukraine on the other hand have been woeful without scoring a goal or keeping a clean sheet, they have very little to play for. Poland are odds against in some places, but the handicap is the value bet, along with Lewandowski opening his Euro 2016 account.

Czech Republic v Turkey

A high scoring game could be the order of the day as both need to take something if they are to proceed. Turkey came in to the tournament high on confidence with both these sides in the same qualifying group and Turkey were much the best in their most recent meeting, winning 2-0 away from home, and after a bad start established some real momentum towards the end of the campaign. Indeed, in their last 18 games they’ve lost just three times: to Spain, Croatia and England. They have the attacking talent and it will be a surprise if they don’t put their best foot forward and go for a big win. Get on Turkey to upset the odds in a must win game.

Spain v Croatia

Current Euro holders Spain have a 100% record but still need a point to secure group winning status. They face Croatia who have also been impressive, until their fans decided to upset their flow with flares and riots during the game. It’s a hard game to call with any confidence as they can both be happy with a draw and the sideshow of possible repercussions for Croatia if the fans misbehave again. We’re keeping a low profile on this game and are going to have a small bet on Ramos scoring at anytime as he’s often in the mix for corners and free kicks, and one goal may seal this tie.
