Fowler back to winning ways

pro2punter - Rickie Fowler

Quicken Loans heads back to Congressional and a course that can get Rickie Fowler back to winning ways. It’s strange time in the golfing calendar with the hype of the US Open having died down and most players looking towards the Open Championship at Troon. There’s quite a few coming from Oakmont and Fowler is one of these players who will look to get back some form before a run of high caliber tournaments in July.

In theory this course should suit Rickie Fowler down to the ground, it’s very much a tee to green set up with putting not as important as other events. He’s not covered himself in glory recently with a few missed cuts, but at 14/1 he’s worth a bet, considering a month or so ago he would have been single figures to take this title. The field is lacking in depth and if he can find his form for the first two rounds then confidence will come back and the young star has big chances.

It would be no surprise to see Gary Woodland in and amongst the leaders come Sunday. He missed the cut two weeks ago but didn’t make the US Open so has had a bit of time to freshen up his game, and particularly his putting, definitely the weakest part of his game. It may not be as important around here as the greens are pretty fair and his ball striking is up there with the best. A fourth at Memorial will still be in his mind and confidence is never far away for the big man, so get on at a nice price for Woodland to push for victory.

A player who is hitting form and underestimated by the bookies this week is Kevin Streelman. 8th at Memorial and a superb 13th at Oakmont on Sunday he shouldn’t be overlooked to make a run at some point this weekend. He’s always had decent results at Congressional and is a local boy so will no this course inside out and also get a fair share of the support this week. The question is how much energy he has left after a hard weekend of Golf. A good start is needed and then the adrenaline will take him in to the weekend and an expected high up finish.

Chez Reavie hasn’t set the golf world alight this season but his stats tell a different story. In the last 10 tournaments he lies in the top 10 of both driving accuracy and greens in regulation, something most players would be proud of. His putting is letting him down, and that is an area you can get away with a little around Congressional. He’s a long shot, but in a weak field Reavie could ignite his season and challenge the winners circle.
