A Mercedes one two is inevitable for the 2016 season
Lewis Hamilton won another Drivers Championship in 2015 with some amazing driving in the first part of the season to put a big enough gap between himself and rival Nico Rosberg. But it was the German who finished off the season strongly and goes in to 2016 with renewed vigor and the backing of our F1 expert.
The racing kicks off in Australia at the Melbourne circuit and finishes in November at Abu Dhabi. There’s plenty at stake and most of the teams will be in agreement that Mercedes have set the benchmark. But can anyone match the horsepower of the German outfit?
The most likely to push the Mercs are The Prancing Horse, who have multiple world title winner Sebastian Vettel at the helm, alongside the reliable but ageing Kimi Raikonen. It’s possible Ferrari can grab a race win or two, but they have to up their game if they are really going to compete.
Red Bull are on the horizon and have a young dynamic team of Daniel Ricciardo, a proven race winner and Russian speedster Daniil Kyvat. Both can push for podium and points each week but they will more than likely be mopping up points from the main protagonists.
From the other teams it would be great to see McClaren back on top, and the pairing of Fernando Alonso and Jensen Button are always a joy to watch, both pushing it to the limit, even though age is catching up with them. Max Verstappen may be a name for the future having secured a place at Toro Rosso, the feeder team for Red Bull. It won’t be long before he’s pushing for a first team spot next to Ricciardo.
