Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Expect fireworks on Stage 10

It’s back to racing after a rest day and you can expect fireworks on Stage 10. It’s the hardest of all the stages to call as any type of rider can win. A breakaway may go clear on the Cat 1 climb at the start of the day, the bunch may all stay together and a sprint ensues or the punchy riders could take the victory by attacking on the last short sharp climb of the day on the road to Revel. We’re 13 points in front after week 1 and today is advised some small bets to get us off to a flyer this week.

The main favorite for the stage is Tinkoff’s Peter Sagan who has all the required talent to take this. He’s in the hunt for the Green Jersey and will go for intermediate sprint points after the first climb and will more than likely target the finish with maximum points. The route after the first climb is fairly open and may provide some cross winds that Sagan can also deal with. He is rightly the favorite so a bet is advised on the Slovak.

Can the likes of Cavendish and Kittel hold on to the last 3km’s and join the sprint trains for victory? No one really seems to know but my feeling is that no, they can’t. The rest day effects everyone differently, but quite often negatively, so if the pace is high not everyone will be able to follow. Cav’s team mate Edward Boasson Hagen has done a great job for his team so far and this stage looks perfect for him. Hills and an uphill finish will be up his street and he should be let loose from his duties today to go for the win.

A couple of big outsiders to put in the mix for today. Michael Valgren has earmarked this stage on his roadmap and has already stated he fancies going for the victory. If he can stay with his team mate Sagan he may cause a surprise coming off the final climb. The other big price is Ramunas Navadauskas, the Cannondale rider who will give them plenty of options. He’s always had good tour’s and he’s yet to test his legs out front. Cannondale’s GC ambition took a big hit on Sunday when Pierre Rolland blew up, so other options are in order for the team.
