Cycling – Paris-Roubaix Tips

Our expert picks out the BEST VALUE in Sunday’s big classic!

This is undoubtably the biggest classic of the year and comes just a week after the brutal Tour Of Flanders where Peter Sagan finally won his first monument. The Slovak is favourite for the race along with legend Fabian Cancellara who competes in his last ever Paris-Robaix.

With the two big guns taking a big percentage of the market, there is plenty of value in the rest of the star studded field. I can see Sagan and Cancellara marking each other out of the race and after both went full gas last weekend they may run out of steam. My first tip was on last years podium and is part of a strong Etixx team who haven’t fulfilled potential this year. Zdenek Stybar goes well on the cobbles and with rain forecast his cyclo cross experience will come in very handy when the conditions become muddy.

Next up I fancy his team mate Niki Terpstra to make the most of big support in the Etixx camp. He may well fall under the radar with so many options to the Belgium team. A strong engine and great experience in these races makes him a very nice each way bet.

Now on to some bigger priced riders who may well shock the peleton with some creative tactics. Luke Rowe has been extremely strong all season and is one of two options for the Sky team. Last weekend he rode a big race but didn’t quite have the power to keep up with the favourites. This weekend it may be different as that bit of experience will prove vital on the cobbles. He has Stannard as a foil and the big man can keep him out of trouble for the main part of the race.

Finally a huge priced outsider is Giants Bert De Backer who has a snall sneak at 100/1. He’s been Degenkolbs right hand man on the cobbles for the past 2 years and helped the German to magnificent win last year. He’s shown he can handle the pave and Giant will have big hopes for him keeping pace and possibly becoming the first to enter the Velodrome.
