Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

Big odds for Stage 4

Stage 3 returned a nice profit when Cavendish won at 5/1, so we go in to Stage 4 with confidence. Today I have a couple of big odds for the longest stage of the tour where the sprinters will yet again compete for victory. Let’s hope they push them selves a bit more than yesterday where the stage took an extra hour due to such a snails pace.

Mark Cavendish looks the one to beat on the flat but today’s stage has plenty of small climbs where at one point they reach over 450 metres in height. A bunch sprint is very likely but the Manx man will find it hard to stay with the bunch in the last few kms and may well use too much energy if he does so. Today’s stage looks perfect for the yellow jersey wearer, and Tinkoff’s Peter Sagan looks the bet of the day. He can climb, sprint and generally do anything on two wheels and will be the one everyone is wary of.

I’m also having a couple of smaller bets on outsiders who should enjoy this stage. Michael Matthews is finding his form and the short climbs suit his style nicely. He may not have the lead out train like the other big sprint teams but he’s tenacious enough to get in the mix and know when to strike. The other big price is Greg Van Avermaet who is not a natural sprinter but will also enjoy and few lumps on the road map and will easily stay with the lead guys coming in to the last few kms. He may surprise a few and a break is not beyond him coming up the last little incline.
