Betting Tips for the Smart Punter

An explosive stage for the climbers

Most probably the biggest and most explosive stage of the Tour de France today, and it’s an incredibly hard one to predict with a breakaway of top class climbers likely to get clear at some point. Chris Froome is still the target man for the GC contenders and his Sky team will be doing all they can to protect him. It’s a brutal day as you can see from the profile below, so make sure you watch it on Eurosport from around 1pm.

Yesterday we selected yet another winner on the sprint with Cavendish doing the business for us, and today may be a little harder to pick that winner, so go in with caution and have a few small bets on the advised tips.

Chris Froome is a massive price to win as a breakaway is expected to take it, but if they get reeled in then Froome’s odds will plummet and he can crack the rest of his rivals and take a big scalp. He’s worth a small each way bet today.

Most teams will try and get in the breakaway and Rafal Majka is the favorite for the stage as he’ll want to get the KOTM points along the way. I can’t see him lasting to the end of the stage though and others make more appeal. Romain Bardet could well go for a win with his excellent descending ability and a French win is highly anticipated with Bardet probably the best chance.

Astana have had a bit of a disaster so far this tour and they will be aiming for a big stage win. Fabio Aru struggled in the TT and is over 5 minutes down on GC, so may be able to get in a break today. Even if he misses that he will have earmarked this stage and with the help of Nibali is a big player today.

Finally at big odds I’m going for Lotto Soudal’s Tony Gallopin who won a similar sort of stage back in 2014 on the tour. Ok, this is more of a challenge but the Frenchman is an opportunist and his style could work well on the course today, with the likelihood of a break making it to the end.
