Along with the F1, Moto GP is also in the initial stage of testing for the new season and reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo made a blistering start to the 2016 campaign by topping the time sheets at the end of the opening official testing in Sepang. Plenty of thrills and spills were had, including a 180mph crash by Loris Baz.
The biggest shock was retired ex champion Casey Stoner who is riding testing for Ducati and managed a very respectable fifth on the sheets, at one point hitting second place. He’s adamant that he won’t be returning to the professional ranks and signing a contract but lets see how that pans out. The likelihood is we’ll see him at a few tracks with wildcard entries.
At the other end of the spectrum the Hondas of Marquez and Pedrosa were really struggling with both the transition from Bridgestone to Michelin tyres and also the switch of software that is not marrying well with the rest of the bike. It may be a case of time for both riders and the second test will give us more insight, but it doesnt bode well for the title fight.
On that note Jorge Lorenzo is a standout bet and the World Champion is improving year by year, often going under the radar as all the focus is on team mate Valentino Rossi. The Doctor is great to watch but with age not on his side he will find it tough to get another chance of glory like he had in 2015. Get on the 7/4 that the Spaniard will clinch his fourth World Championship and enjoy what will be an amazing season of top class bike riding.
