The big question is, can Nico Rosberg seriously challenge Lewis Hamilton for the title this year?
Last season Lewis had tied up the championship three quarters of the way through the campaign, and it wasn’t until the US Grand Prix and the infamous cap tossing incident that Nico finally got the bit between his teeth and said no more mr niceguy! He then went on to win the remaining three races (fairly comfortably) and take a huge amount of momentum into the 2016 F1 season. He also looked to get the backing of the team, with the likes of Toto Wolff and even the normally fence sitting Niki Lauda actually siding with the German and lourding his attitude and achievements.
Although we’ve only had wet tyre testing and only a handful of teams turned up, it seems that Ferrari will once again be the main threat to the marauding Mercedes. Vettel posted the top time with his car maintaining a good working relationship with the wet pirellis, and most others a fair way back. Three race victories and a podium in 2015 showed that the Prancing Horse is getting it together and they will be confident of closing the deficit to Mercedes in what we can only hope is a closer championship this year.
Until the first real test session at the end of February a real feel for all cars is hard to attain, but an ante post bet on Nico Rosberg is still a nice proposition and answers the question that Yes, he can become the second ever World Champions son to become a World Champion himself. His newly found grit and determination, along with the outward dislike of his team mate Hamilton make him a VALUE bet at 10/3 and what could be a rivalry that may match some of the best to be seen in Formula One.
